PUBLIC PROFILE

Arthur Boucaut Jones

Local Resident

Murraylands · SA

Capt. Bouc, teacher, River Master

I am a retired school principal and teacher/trainer/consultant on school camping and youth adventure education. I am very concerned about the current dropout rate of high school students, currently 24%.
As a contribution to helping dropout teens to stay in education during their transition years 15-18, I am working on creating a fleet of Houseboat style School ships working as "Cocoons' to reset the thinking of these dropout teens at risk.

Avoca trust

Aerie College and the associated DGR Trust Avoca trust plans to establish a fleet of school ships working the Murray to hold Teens aged 15-18 at risk of education dropout. The SA Law dictates that these young people are required to continue their education. Parents are at risk of a fine if their children drop out of school.

Distinguished and Famous people from Wheelers Hill

🎸 Chris Cheney and Scott Owen

Chris Cheney grew up in Wheelers Hill and attended Jells Park Primary School, where fellow future musician Scott Owen was also a pupil. Cheney later went to Wheelers Hill Secondary College and studied jazz at Box Hill Institute. The two schoolmates became founding members of The Living End in 1994, with guitar and double bass supplying a distinctive musical partnership. Cheney's early musical education included repeated listening to AC/DC cassettes and practising what he heard. A suburban school connection thus preceded a career built on rather more amplification than the average classroom would welcome.

🏗️ Robin Boyd

Architect Robin Boyd contributed to the modern residential character of the area through house design. Monash's library collection records the Romberg and Boyd house built for Graham Moore in Lum Road in 1966, while his Appletree Hill work helped establish a pattern of modern housing and underground services nearby. The connection is architectural practice rather than a claim that he grew up in the suburb. Photographs preserve the way these designs used everyday houses to explore modern living, making architectural ideas part of the streets people actually occupied.
